Lucifer Profile
A mysterious old man who the protagonist meets several times on the Labyrinth of Amala, he simply remains silent on his wheelchair while the lady who is always with him does all the talking. His cold gaze and formal appearance inspire both respect and fear.
The lady in black that is always with him requests to the protagonist at one point of the story that he recovers the Candelabras which were stolen from the Labyrinth of Amala by the demons known as "Fiends" (most of them with the appearance of Grim Reapers/skulls and one of them being Dante, protagonist of the Devil May Cry game series), in exchange, she would tell him everything about the new world as well as to allow him travel the labyrinth for him to become more powerful.
As the protagonist battles the Fiends around the world, he learns that the Fiends didn't steal the Candelabras but that the old man gave them one for each Fiend. The lady in black admits that indeed they gave the Fiends the Candelabras and ordered them to battle anyone who had another Candelabra; this was done as a kind of contest to see which Demon was the most powerful of all. The victorious demon would then have to travel the Labyrinth of Amala to it's deepest floors (using the Candelabras to open doors and such) as well as to beat any challenge that presented in there (such as Dante, Beelzebub and Metatron).
When the protagonist reaches the deepest floor, the lady in black congratulates him and explains him the reason for all of this. They needed a powerful demon to lead all others into the final battle against "the supreme one" (ie: God) in order to put an end to the eternal cycle of Creation and so the lives and destinies of all beings aren't controlled or preset anymore (in other words, God turns out to be the enemy). Finally, the old man awakens the full power of the Demi-Fiend by turning him into a full demon; but while he passed all tests he first needs to destroy Kagutsuchi (as well as the leaders of the Reasons).
After destroying Kagutsuchi, both the old man and the young kid appear before him and finally speak. They tell him he must do one final thing before he is considered to be strong enough like to lead the demons: battle them... or rather, him: Lucifer. After a long and chaotic battle, the protagonist wins; Lucifer then congratulates him and calls forth his demon armies who follow behind the protagonist Lucifer then changes into two crows and flies as if showing the way... into the black sun.
Note: Just a curious detail. In Digital Devil Saga 2, the final enemy is what one would consider to be God (Braham), who resides in the sun. Also, because of his anger toward humanity, the sun turned black, just as shown on this ending of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne.
Game of appearance: Shin Megami Tensei : Lucifer's Call.
